Model Ship Building From News Papers

I get amusement creating ships, not a part of job or anything. But I do it with apportioned time.
It is easy it don't require any special equipments or so.
Just a some good glue to stick things and lots and lots of news papers.

Building a ship from News papers, idea didn't click immediately actually.
I was making a drawing for a frigate, and thought about the first paper ship that I made in my school days
for my curriculum activity. That ship was simple one made of cardbord.

This is how it is build!

Making strips if News paper.

This is the only part in ship building that needs lots of patience. The strips needs to be stiff, firmly folded and of uniform width. The finishing quality of final ship depends how neatly these strips are made.

I use two kinds of news papers, ET and other white papers.
ET has a characterized salmon-pink colour. Ships build with this paper looks more attractive.
But I am short of these most often so I use it only for outer layers of ship.
Roll the paper with firm folding make a relatively stiff paper strip.
It is not necessary to make a strong stiff strip, When we glue them, strips get strengthen. And it resists deforming.

Planning design:

This is thing that I don't do. Most of the times I don't have any final design in mind but it
comes as ship begins to take some shape. This way works for me :)
For measuring, I don't even use scale. Scales are based on proportion and symmetry.

Building ship frame

I had started with gluing three stiff strips together, that will form ship deck.
And added supporting padding with zigzag strips.

Covering it with colored strips

Elevated triangular shaped to give support for ships cross-section.

Elevated main deck.

And filled it strips to strengthen it.

cool man unique, gr8 work and dedication,

just a thought... are all the strips of same strength and thickness?

they all look similar from pics... i was thinking if some stronger and stiffer strips can be used for framework and then later softer/lighter strips can be used between them...

anyways nice work man...

This is very creative. I liked it. Although I am not a "craft"y person, I like the idea of creating useful things out of something that is mostly intended to be trashed.
